The Zamfara State chapter of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for security agencies to intervene following what it described as inflammatory and unsubstantiated accusations made by a senior aide to Governor Dauda Lawal.
In a statement released on Tuesday in the state capital, Gusau, the APC’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, urged law enforcement to act swiftly against Mustafa Jafaru-Kaura, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Broadcast Media, accusing him of making baseless claims against Bello Matawalle, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence.
Idris revealed that at an emergency meeting of the party’s State Working Committee, APC Chairman Tukur Danfulani strongly condemned the aide’s recent remarks, calling them “provocative and defamatory.”
“The party finds it unacceptable that Mr Jafaru-Kaura would level such serious kidnapping allegations against a serving minister without evidence,” said Idris. “We call on security agencies to invite him for questioning and demand proof of his claims.”
The APC statement further accused the governor’s aide of launching “unwarranted personal attacks” on other party leaders, including former Governor and current Senator Abdulaziz Yari. The party characterised these remarks as “deliberate attempts to undermine opposition figures” and urged a thorough investigation.
The party also defended Matawalle’s record during his tenure as governor, asserting that his administration provided immediate support to communities affected by insecurity and armed banditry.
“The APC stands by the legacy of our leaders and will not allow political smear campaigns to go unchallenged,” Idris said, urging party supporters to remain calm as the matter is addressed through legal and institutional channels.
He added that the APC would continue to play an active role in holding the current Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government accountable and was confident of reclaiming the state in the 2027 elections.
