The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Benue Command, has deployed 1,480 personnel to ensure the security of lives and property across the state during and beyond the yuletide season.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Michael Ejelikwu, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday in Makurdi.
Ejelikwu said the personnel would be strategically stationed in every corner of the state to maintain peace and order during the festive period.
The PRO said the state Commandant, Mrs Larai Bitrus, who ordered the deployment, charged the personnel to sustain the tempo of the relative peace being enjoyed across the state as a result of the coordinated security collaboration among security agencies.
“I charge you to be professional and diligent in carrying out your duties. Continue to collaborate with sister security agencies in the field to achieve success,” Bitrus said.
She urged the divisional officers of Buruku and Gboko divisions to gather intelligence that would forestall any possible breakdown of law and order, following plans to organise the yearly picnic in Buruku on Boxing Day and in Gboko on New Year Day.
“I have directed the Head of Operations to prepare an operational order and assign supervisors to aid in the monitoring and supervision of men in the field for effective service delivery,’’ she said.
Bitrus urged members of the public to protect critical national assets and infrastructures within their domains and volunteer information to security agencies regarding any security breach.
She warned that criminal elements would have it tough in Benue, stating that Benue is no longer a safe haven for criminal elements and their nefarious activities.
Bitrus wished law-abiding citizens a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance. (NAN)
