Yiaga Africa, a Non-Governmental Organisation, has established a Not too Young to Run Hub, at the Federal University Dutse.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that it was inaugurated at the campus Auditorium in Dutse.
Speaking at the event, a representative of the organisation, Mrs Anthonia Onda, explained that FUD was selected to be a hub, because of the students’ wonderful performance at a youths debate recently held in Abuja.
Onda commended the efforts of the Students Union Government (SUG) of FUD, for coordinating the students to perform well at the debate, saying that such effort was a pathway towards becoming quality leaders.
According to her, “the establishment of the hub is expected to guide the youths into active participation in politics and modify them for quality and good governance.”
She explained that Yiaga Africa has a mandate of building the capacity and interest of the young people to participate in democracy and politics through the establishing hubs.
In a presentation, Mr Ibrahim Farouk, a facilitator, explained the concept of the Not Too Young to Run Movement and its objectives, saying, “it allows participation of youths in democracy.”
He enumerated the goals of the movement to include; solidarity, patriotism, responsibility, inclusion and trust.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Mr Sani Sabo, the Students’ Electoral Officer, FUD, commended Yiaga Africa for selecting the institution for the establishment of the hub.
He also lauded the NGO for finding the students worthy for inclusion in the movement, while promising to do their best to live up to expectation.
According to Sabo, the university management has given consent to the movement, with a pledge to support the students to establish and run the hub successfully.
He assured the Yiaga Africa team that the student union government would organise an election of quality leaders to steer the hub soonest.

It is establishing Not too Young to Run Hubs in different parts of the country to assist and engage the young people in utilising the hub.
NAN recalls that the Not too Young to Run Bill passed into law by the National Assembly in 2018, seeks to reduce the age limit for aspirants into elective offices in Nigeria.(NAN)
