Gov Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State on Wednesday performed the groundbreaking of N28.9 billion state House of Assembly and High Court complex.

Inuagurating the projects on Wednesday in Gombe, Yahaya said the gestutre was a testament to his administration’s commitments to strengthen governance structure in the state.

He said the high court project has been awarded at the cost of N14.9 billion while that of the house of assembly at the cost of N14.05 billion, respectively.

The gesture, he said, was the first time the government was creating an environment conducive for public servants to work since the creation of the state.

Yahaya said that his administration has invested huge resources in critical sectors like education, health, road infrastructure, agriculture in the last five years.

“On the occasion of the laying of the foundation of the Gombe state high court complex and the house of assembly complex, together with the secretariat complex will constitute the three arms zone.

“This symbolises the harmonious co-existence and independence of the executive, legislative and the judicial arms of government.

“The legislature and judiciary are the true pillars of democracy and justice playing indispensable roles in the governance and development of any society.

“The legislature as the people’s representative craft the laws that guide our collective aspirations, debate policies and provide the checks and balances needed for a functional democracy.

“The judiciary on the other hand stands as the impartial habiter of justice upholding the rule of law, protecting rights and ensuring that justice is served without fear or favour,” he said.

Yahaya said both institutions deserved befitting edifices that not only symbolised their dignity and importance but also provided an environment conducive for their operation.

“By providing the facilities, the state government had reaffirmed its belief in the sanctity of both institutions’ function and its commitment to strengthening governance structures that underpin democracy and social progress”.

While urging stakeholders to support the project, Yahaya tasked contractors to ensure utmost diligence, professionalism and adherence to project standards and schedules.

He said that the projects represented not just physical structures but the foundation of a vibrant and progressive state, “where governance is responsive and institutions are strong.” (NAN)
