A Jos Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, sentenced a 45-year-old trader, Beatrice Gabriel, to two years in prison for diverting funds meant for purchase of manure.
The Magistrate, Mr Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced Gabriel who pleaded guilty.
Bokkos, however, ordered the convict to pay N30,000 fine or spend six months in prison.
He also ordered Gabriel to pay a compensation of N270,000 to her victim or spend another 18 months in prison.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported to the police on Dec. 2, 2024 by one Winifred Obed.
Gokwat said that the convict deceived the complainant by promising to supply chicken manure to her farm.
“She was given the sum of N320,000 to supply the manure but she converted it to her own personal use,” Gokwat said.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.(NAN)
