Gov Umar Namadi of Jigawa has lauded the efforts of the 26 Armour Brigade of the Nigeria Army for combating insecurity in the state.

Namadi gave the commendation while speaking at 2024 West African Social Activities (WASA), held at the 26 Armoured Brigade Barracks Yargaba, in Dutse.

“This year, 26 Armoured Brigade has every reason to celebrate. Your officers and soldiers have shown extraordinary commitment to duties and have been resolute in the discharge of their constitutional roles.

“I am particularly impressed by your achievements in combating kidnapping, cattle rustling and armed robbery. Your success have had a profound impact on the security of Jigawa and its surrounding areas,” Namadi said.

He explained that the brigade’s collaboration with other security agencies, through Operation Salama had significantly contributed to the peace and stability of the state.

“The gallantry and courage displayed by your troops in these operations are both commendable and deeply appreciated,” he said.

The governor assured the brigade of his administration’s continuous support, urging them to remain focused and resilient in confronting emerging challenges.

“I urge you to continue embracing the highest standards of professionalism, remaining steadfast, proactive and ever committed to noble task of safeguarding our state and the nation,” Namadi said.

Earlier, the Commander of the 26 Armoured Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Teminere Mackintosh, described WASA as an annual event.

He said that WASA was where Nigeria’s rich military heritage and diverse cultural tradition was used as a medium for unity, fostering a sense of community and peaceful coexistence among personnel, their families and the broader civilian population.

“Let me begin by stating that the year 2024 training activities have been executed in line with army headquarters directives. I’m happy to say that the success recorded were resounding, despite the current complex security environment.

“Since my assumption of office, the brigade has continued to conduct robust and aggressive day and night patrols and clearance operations in conjunction with other security agencies against all forms of criminality in Jigawa state.

“We’ve often used a combination of kinetic and non kinetic operations which have proven to be very effective.

“In general, the overall mutual and cooperative efforts of the military and other stakeholders, reflects our overriding belief that the issue of security is a collective responsibility that must be achieved,” Mackintosh said.

The commander, who appreciated the governor for his guidance to the brigade and other security agencies, added his financial and intellectual support on various operations in the state had led to peace and tranquility in the state.

According to him, the brigade is set to consolidate on the current operational gains with an overarching commitment to maintain the tempo for prompt response to the security challenges that could threaten the state.

Highlights of the event were cultural displays by different cultural groups, presentation of souvenirs to governor Namadi, SSG, Emirs of Dutse and Kazaure, awards to soldiers who distinguished themselves in different areas in 2024 and burn fire.(NAN)
