Nigeria’s Super Falcons returned to a jubilant homecoming on Monday after clinching their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, triumphing over host nation Morocco in a thrilling final.
The African champions touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at exactly 2:45 p.m. aboard a chartered flight.
They were received by an enthusiastic crowd and several high-ranking officials, including Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi.
Speaking shortly after their arrival, Festus Keyamo lauded the team’s resilience and patriotism, praising their embodiment of the Nigerian spirit.
“The girls have that ‘I-can-do’ spirit which is typical of every Nigerian. We need this same attitude across every sector of the nation,” he said.
“We are proud to welcome the champions. They were incredible in the tournament, and we eagerly await the moment President Bola Tinubu receives them officially.”
From the airport, the team proceeded to the Presidential Villa, where they are expected to be honoured by the President in recognition of their outstanding performance and commitment to national glory.
