The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has urged the public to disregard false reports circulating on social media alleging the cancellation of results from specific schools.
Moyosola Adesina, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), describing the viral messages as unfounded and not originating from any official or accredited source.
“Kindly ignore any message listing schools whose results were supposedly cancelled,” she said, warning candidates, parents, and school administrators against relying on unverified platforms.
Adesina further debunked claims that certain examination centres had been asked to bring candidates’ scripts to WAEC offices, stressing that all scripts remain in secure custody throughout the marking and investigation process.
“WAEC will never ask any centre to bring scripts to its office. The council has strict protocols in place to protect the integrity of all examination materials,” she added.
She reiterated that all official announcements are made only through WAEC’s verified social media handles and accredited media outlets.
“Do not accept or circulate any information not shared via our official channels. WAEC encourages the public to stay informed through trusted sources,” Adesina said.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, due process, and professionalism in all examination-related matters. It also encouraged the public to report suspicious messages or questionable sources.
Candidates awaiting their results were reassured that any delay due to investigation or verification is being addressed with fairness and integrity.
