Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the second United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit, scheduled to hold from July 27 to 29.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Vice President’s aircraft touched down at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport at approximately 4:26 p.m. local time.
He was received by Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh; Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Ethiopia, Ambassador Nasir Aminu; Finance Attaché, Dr. Suleiman Dauda; and Deputy Defence Attaché (Air Force), Wing Commander Gabriel Batubo.
Other officials at the airport to welcome the Vice President included the Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Macy Ogbede; First Secretary, Mr. Jangado Ishaku; and other senior members of the Nigerian Embassy in Addis Ababa.
While in Ethiopia, Vice President Shettima will join global leaders at a high-level dialogue on transforming the coffee value chain and take part in roundtable discussions and bilateral meetings focused on strengthening Nigeria’s food security initiatives.
He is also expected to participate in side events aimed at showcasing real-world examples of food systems transformation, promoting cross-border knowledge exchange, and fostering international partnerships.
The summit will bring together world leaders to assess progress since the inaugural UN Food Systems Summit in 2021 and the first Stocktake (UNFSS+2) held in 2023. It aims to accelerate global efforts toward building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems.
The event will spotlight successful country-level transformations, share innovative agricultural practices, and address food system challenges in fragile and conflict-affected areas. It also forms part of broader efforts to align global narratives on sustainable development and strengthen synergy across key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
