Six men’s teams and two women’s teams will compete at the 2024 African Military Games (AMGA) in Abuja, with the volleyball tournament promising thrilling actions and fierce competitions.
The fixtures for the volleyball event were announced at a technical meeting held on Saturday at the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) boardroom, Lagos.
The competition will kick off on Nov. 25 with matchups that include Sierra Leone vs Burkina Faso (noon), Ghana vs Kenya (2 p.m.) and host Nigeria vs Algeria (4 p.m.).
The president of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Mr Musa Nimrod, said that the African Military Games was being used as a platform for promoting unity and camaraderie among African nations.
“This is more than just a tournament.
“It is a celebration of African strength, discipline, and teamwork,” he said.
Nimrod also praised the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, for the renovations of the indoor sports hall.
“When I entered the hall, I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive renovations. The improvements have made the arena more beautiful and functional.
“I want to commend the Chief of Defence Staff for investing in the nation’s sports facilities,” he said.
Commodore Aliyu Pindar (Rtd.), Chairman of the FCT Volleyball Association, also expressed confidence in Nigeria’s Armed Forces volleyball team.
“I am confident that these players will make the country proud.
“They are hungry for glory, and the African Military Games provide the perfect platform for them to shine,” he said. (NAN)
