Troops of Nigeria’s Joint Task Force, operating under Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), have neutralised dozens of terrorists in a coordinated military offensive near Inana village in Rijau Local Government Area, Niger State.
In a statement released on Wednesday, OPFY’s Media Information Officer, Captain David Adewusi, confirmed that the operation took place on Tuesday following intelligence reports about a large group of militants advancing from Maru LGA in Zamfara State.
The insurgents, reportedly heading towards the Ragada and Warari areas in Niger State, were intercepted by joint military units from Mariga and Zuru axes. The troops engaged the militants in a fierce gun battle, supported by the Air Component of OPFY, which provided reconnaissance and tactical airstrikes.
“Several terrorists were eliminated, and we recovered two AK-47 rifles, a loaded magazine, 18 motorcycles, as well as various communication devices,” Captain Adewusi stated. “Sadly, one of our soldiers lost his life in the encounter.”
The operation reportedly disrupted the militants’ plans to raid communities and rustle livestock.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to counterinsurgency efforts across Nigeria’s troubled North-West and North-Central regions, urging the public to continue supplying actionable intelligence to bolster ongoing military campaigns.
