Sen Mukhail Abiru (Lagos-East) has empathised with Nigerians facing tough times as a result of certain economic policy decisions of the Federal Government.
Abiru, in his Independence Day message on Tuesday, sought understanding of the people as the government worked toward a better future.
His message is contained in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr Enitan Olukotun.
Abiru said that the government was pushing through tough but inevitable policies geared towards restoring the nation on the path of economic sustainability and prosperity.
He called on Nigerians to remain steadfast, hopeful and resilient in the face of the challenges facing the nation.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, reassured the people that there was light at the end of the tunnel.
Abiru, also Chairman, Southern Senators Forum, said that Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of unity and progress.
He urged citizens to shun all divisive rhetoric and intolerance towards fellow countrymen.
“Today, I join fellow Nigerians in celebrating the 64th Independence anniversary of our great country.
“Despite the challenges we face, whether economic, social, or political, Nigeria remains a beacon of hope and progress in Africa.
“Our strength lies in our diversity; our unity is our greatest asset.
“We are a nation of over 250 ethnic groups, speaking over 500 languages, yet united under one green and white flag.
“These clearly underscore why we should strengthen our unity, shun actions that will further widen our national fault lines, and all contribute to nation building,” he said.
Abiru said the policies of the Tinubu-led administration reflected a clear understanding that, to avert an impending collapse, bold and courageous steps had to be taken.
“President Tinubu’s leadership at this pivotal moment in our nation’s history is a testament to his vision and resolve to safeguard Nigeria’s future, even when such decisions come at a significant cost in the short term.
“Dear fellow compatriots, this is not the time to give up on our country, It is, however, moments like these that our resolve, our patriotism, and our shared sense of purpose must be unwavering.
“Together, with determination and a shared commitment to the future, we will rise above our challenges and build the Nigeria we all desire.” Abiru said.(NAN)
