The Nafiu Bala Support Organisation, a political group loyal to the deputy national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, has refuted a resignation letter circulating on social media that he resigned from the party following the taking over of the party chairmanship by David Mark recently.
Recall that Mark emerged as the new national chairman after the adoption of ADC by opposition coalition leaders in the nation as their platform for the next 2027 elections, with the deputy chairman not surrendering and leading a faction as acting national chairman of the party.
Our correspondent reports that Nafiu was also the party’s governorship candidate in Gombe State in 2023.
According to a press release issued to our correspondent on Friday by the spokesperson of the organisation, Comrade Ibrahim Adamu, the document is a “complete fabrication, authored by mischief-makers with ill intent, aimed at misleading the public and discrediting Nafiu’s growing influence within the party”.
The organisation reaffirmed its total loyalty Nafiu Bala’s leadership and the ADC’s vision of a stronger, more inclusive party.
“We remain committed to upholding the values of accountability, unity, and people-centred governance that Hon. Nafiu Bala continues to champion,” Comrade Adamu stated.
The organisation urged media houses and the general public to verify all political communications through authorised party channels and cautioned the social media men against spreading “such fake news against their leader”, warning that legal action migh follow if such attempts persist.
They argued that if the national chairman resigned, his deputy, Nafiu, who did not resign “was legally supposed to be acting chairman until convention is held to elect new leaders”.
“As acting chairman of the ADC, Hon. Nafiu Bala has been gaining increasing support across key political blocs due to his credible leadership and commitment to party unity.
“His track record in grassroots mobilisation and youth empowerment has also earned him recognition. He remains the acting chairman of ADC until newly elected leadership emerges” he said.
