Spanish police have stated that evidence suggests the late Liverpool forward, Diogo Jota, was in the driver’s seat and was probably speeding at the time of the fatal crash.
Jota died in the accident alongside his brother, André Silva.
The Lamborghini they were travelling in is suspected to have suffered a tyre blowout in the northwestern Zamora province early last Thursday.
On Tuesday, police revealed that the marks left by one of the Lamborghini’s tyres and “all the tests carried out so far indicate that the driver of the crashed vehicle was Diogo Jota”.
Their investigation has been hindered by the intensity of the fire, which almost completely destroyed the car.
Police have also emphasised that the location where the accident occurred is not considered an accident “black spot”.
