The Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged abduction and gang rape of a minor.
The State Commandant, Mr Usman Alfadarai, disclosed the development while addressing journalists in Sokoto on Tuesday.
According to him, the arrest was made after the victim’s parents reported her missing for over three days.
“Our operatives acted swiftly upon receiving the report, and successfully apprehended the suspects.
“During interrogation, they confessed to committing the crime,” Alfadarai stated.
He further revealed that preliminary investigations showed the victim was lured and drugged by a woman identified as Rabi’atu, now at large.
The commandant, who said the victim had undergone medical examinations to aid the ongoing investigation, added that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
Describing the incident as a stark reminder of the importance of parental vigilance, Alfadarai urged parents and guardians to monitor their children’s activities and movements closely.
“As a command, we are dedicated to safeguarding the lives and properties of all residents in Sokoto. We will not relent until all forms of criminal activities are eradicated,” he assured.
Alfadarai also appealed to stakeholders to work together with security agencies to build a safer society free from such heinous acts.
He commended members of the public for their cooperation, and encouraged them to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
According to the commandant, protection of children is a collective responsibility.
He called on everyone to play an active role in ensuring their safety. (NAN)
