The Sokoto State Commission of Inquiry has adjourned its sitting to Wednesday to allow Sen. Aminu Tambuwal (PDP-Sokoto South) to appear as a witness in relation to nine memos.

This was disclosed by Mr Amanzi Amanzi, Counsel to the commission, while addressing journalists after its sitting on Tuesday in Sokoto.

Amanzi revealed that the memoranda were submitted by the Sokoto State Government, outlining alleged activities during Tambuwal’s tenure as a Governor of the state.

“The matters were specifically fixed for witness number one in the memos, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, the former governor of the state.

“He was scheduled to appear before the commission on Tuesday, to provide his perspective and explain the issues raised in the memos.

“However, counsel representing the witness informed the commission of his absence, offering very limited details regarding the reason behind it,” he said.

Amanzi emphasised that the primary concern of the commission was the witness’s presence, not that of his counsel.

“Our submission to the witness and his counsel is that, considering the significance of the matter and the fact that it was scheduled specifically for witness number one, the hearing should be adjourned to Tuesday.

“This submission was accepted by the commission to ensure that the former governor can appear before its sitting,” Amanzi added.

He explained that the memoranda contained allegations of improper monetisation of government vehicles and other valuable state assets during Tambuwal’s administration.

Amanzi said that the complaints were documented in the memoranda and the commission expected explanations from the former governor to finalise its investigative report.

He stated that the report would then be submitted to Gov. Ahmed Aliyu for further action. (NAN)
