Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has paid tribute to the late former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, describing him as one of the country’s most visionary leaders.
Shettima, who led a delegation on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Ogbeh family on Monday, said Nigeria had suffered an “irreparable loss” following the elder statesman’s death on Saturday at the age of 78.
“Chief Ogbeh’s vision and pragmatic approach to agricultural development transformed our farming communities and shaped our national food security agenda,” Shettima said in a statement released by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha.
The Vice President praised Ogbeh’s decades of work in promoting rural development, food security, and agricultural transformation, noting that his contributions would remain a reference point for policymakers and farming families.
“His demise represents a collective loss to the entire agricultural ecosystem,” Shettima said, adding prayers for the repose of Ogbeh’s soul and comfort for his family and the people of Benue State.
