A 27-year-old scavenger, Faruk Sarkinpwa, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing aluminium windows.
The police charged Sarkinpwa, who resides in Gwagwa village, Abuja, with criminal trespass and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that on July 16, the complainant, Olu Lawal of Abubakar Street, Jabi, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station.
Nwachukwu said that on the same date at about 11.40 a.m,  the defendant intentionally trespassed into the complainant’s construction site, at Paradise Estate Karmo, without his consent.
She alleged that the defendant dishonestly vandalised the complainant’s building  and stole his aluminum windows of unknown value.
The prosecution counsel said the complainant apprehended the defendant and handed him over to the police for investigation.
Nwachukwu told the court that during police investigations, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of himself.
According to her, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code Law.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Jobbo ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case until Sept. 17 for hearing. (NAN)
