A member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Asema Achado (Gwer East/Gwer West Federal Constituency), has strongly condemned the killing of three of his constituents in Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue by unknown assailants.

Achado, in a statement signed by his Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Mendah Manasseh, on Tuesday in Makurdi, described the killings as tragic.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the attackers killed three members of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards at On-MbaAondo, Tsambe-Mbesev Ward of Gwer-West LGA.

NAN further reports that following the killings, angry youths in the area took to the streets to protest.

NAN also reports that many properties, including the LGA secretariat, Ter Nagi Palace, Sen. Titus Zam Hotel, Mr Felix Atume’s house and many others, were touched.

Achado called for a proactive security strategy to avert future reoccurrence.

The lawmaker expressed deep sadness and concern over the sustained attacks and killings.

He called on the federal and Benue governments as well as local authorities to urgently address the situation.

He described the attacks as a “dastardly annihilation” of Benue citizens which required urgent and decisive action by the government.

He emphasised the need for a comprehensive security strategy that included community engagement and collaboration with law enforcement agencies to tackle insecurity in the state.

The lawmaker condoled with the families of the bereaved and sympathised with those whose properties were destroyed.

Achado reiterated his call on Gov. Hyacinth Alia to enforce the Anti-Open Grazing and Prohibition Law as the most viable solution to the killings in Benue State.

Achado stressed that protecting citizens was a fundamental responsibility of government that must be upheld through decisive action. (NAN)
