Rep Jesse Onuakalusi (LP-Lagos) has been appointed to chair the University of Nigeria Nsuka (UNN) Alumni Association committee to raise N5 billion to build a founder tower.
The lawmaker in his acceptance speech in Abuja on Tuesday said the main essence of the founders day was to celebrate the founding fathers of the Alma mater.
Onuakalusi said, “this year marks the 64th Founder’s Day, and the committee’s primary objective is to build the Founders Tower.
This, he said would house a Grand Research Institute, a 5,000-seat amphitheater, an Alumni Secretariat, and Conference Arena
“The Founders Tower will also feature a Hall of Fame to recognize the University’s exceptional alumni across various fields. To achieve this, the committee aims to raise N5 billion only and complete the project within 48 months.
He said that UNN happened was the first indigenous university in Nigeria, modeled after Michigan University, USA.
According to him, it was envisioned as an exclusive launch pad for educational excellence and to restore the dignity man particularly the black race.
He said the UNN motto which is “To Restore the Dignity of Man,” has its roots in the teaching of 15th-century philosopher Count Giovanni Pico della Mirandola. (NAN)
