Former House of Representatives member from Bayelsa, Israel Sunny-Goli, has stated that the country is safe under President Bola Tinubu and does not need any rescue.

Sunny-G0li made the remark in a statement on Tuesday in Yenagoa while reacting to the former Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai’s proposal for a Northern- South-South alliance to rescue Nigeria.

He disagreed with such alliance, describing it as a bid for a political relevance.

He said that the call for the alliance was unwarranted, adding that such move should wait until 2031.

According to him, President Tinubu is diligently addressing the country’s economic and security challenges inherited from his predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari.

‘’What Nigeria needs now is for all well-meaning citizens to support President Tinubu’s initiatives, aimed at repositioning the country.

‘’It is no secret that this administration inherited a troubled economy and security issues, but through bold policy measures, we are making progress.

‘’The Nigerian Armed Forces are intensifying efforts against insurgents, restoring the nation to a path of peace and progress,’’ he said.

Sunny-Goli noted that the South-South region was well-represented in the current administration with sons and daughters of the region holding significant positions which indicated the region’s close relationship with the President.

He enumerated them as Chief Nyesom Wike, who, he said, ‘’is the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, marking the first time since 1976 a Southerner holds this position.’’

Others are Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Nigerian Senate; Dr. Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil); Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) and many others.

According to him, I believe the South-South could not ask for a better deal at this time; perhaps in 2031, we can discuss an alliance, but for now, we fully support President Tinubu. (NAN)
