President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Benue State on Wednesday for a one-day working visit, as the federal government intensifies efforts to curb renewed violence and displacement in Nigeria’s North Central region.
Touching down at Makurdi Airport at 1:40 p.m. local time, the President was welcomed by Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, as well as several North Central governors, ministers, and senior political appointees.
The visit comes on the heels of sustained attacks in communities such as Yelewata Town, where dozens of residents have been displaced and several injured in recent weeks. President Tinubu’s itinerary included a visit to Benue State University Teaching Hospital, where he met with survivors currently receiving medical attention.
Later in the day, the President is expected to host a town hall meeting with key stakeholders from across Benue State to discuss solutions to ongoing insecurity, intercommunal violence, and humanitarian concerns.
Government officials have described the visit as part of a broader peace-building initiative aimed at fostering dialogue and restoring stability in the region.
