The Police Command in Anambra says it will partner the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to foster stronger ties between security agencies and communities in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, said this when members of SWAN, Anambra Chapter, paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Tuesday in Awka.
Orutugu said the partnership aligned with the command’s commitment to enhance community policing and public engagement.
He said it was also part of its efforts to combat violent crimes in the state.
He explained that organising sports competitions with the markets, communities and relevant stakeholders would strengthen police relationships with the public, build trust, and foster peace within the society.
“I want to propose a partnership with SWAN to organise sports competition between security agencies, the markets and the communities.
“I believe it is a way of promoting social cohesion and improving communication between law enforcement agencies and the public.
“It will also create a positive and engaging environment for the public and showcase the importance of sports in building bridges between law enforcement agencies and the community,” the CP said.
Earlier, Chimezie Anaso, Chairman of SWAN in Anambra, expressed gratitude to the CP for the warm reception.
He reaffirmed the association’s readiness to collaborate with the command to achieve its objectives.
Anaso said that the association would partner with the command to review the proposal and develop a work plan for the programme. (NAN)
