Authorities in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have launched an investigation after a young woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a hotel in Gwarinpa, a suburb of Abuja.
The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident on Wednesday in a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Josephine Adeh. According to the police, the victim—identified as Aladi Johnson, also known as Tessy, from Benue State—was discovered unconscious in her hotel room with her hands bound behind her back.
She had checked into the hotel on 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, on 16 June, reportedly accompanied by an unidentified male companion. The man was later seen leaving the premises alone, raising concerns among hotel staff, who subsequently discovered the unconscious woman during a routine check. She was later pronounced dead following medical assessment.
FCT Police Commissioner, Ajao Adewale, has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the case, calling it a “tragic incident” and vowing to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The police are currently analysing CCTV footage and speaking with hotel staff as part of the ongoing probe. No arrests have been made as of Wednesday evening.
Commissioner Adewale also issued a cautionary message to the public, particularly young women, urging them to exercise vigilance in their personal interactions and to regularly inform loved ones of their whereabouts.
He further called on hospitality establishments to enhance their internal security by mandating guest identity verification and ensuring the installation of functional surveillance systems.
Expressing condolences to the victim’s family, the Commissioner affirmed that all resources would be deployed to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
