The Plateau Colleg of Education, Gindri, says it has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC), to run 19 degree programmes.
Prof. Lazarus Maigoro, the Acting Provost of the College disclosed this to the News Agency Nigeria (NAN), on Sunday in Jos.
He said the programmes would be in affiliation with the University of Jos.
”When I took over as Provost on Feb 14, I discovered that the institution has been for the past eight years pushing for affiliation with the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, to run degree programmes without success.
” I applied to the university of Jos in March, it immediately sent a team who inspected our facilities, personnel and what have you.
”The report was presented to the senate of Unijos in June, and the proposed programmes were approved.
”Unijos then made recommendations to the NUC who subsequently sent a team of professors from across the country, led by its Executive Secretary, Dr Chris Maiyaki and three other Directors for and intensive resource inspection exercise.
”At the end of the inspection, NUC granted approval for us to run 19 degree programmes,”he said.
Maigoro listed some of the new programmes to include Bachelors degree in English, French, Biology, Religious Dtudies, Mathematics and History.
Others Physics, Guidance and Counselling, Rconomics, Special Rducation, Geography, Childhood Fevelopment, among others.
Maigoro thanked Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, for funding the entire process leading to the actualisation of the feat for the institution. (NAN)
