Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 elections, has paid tribute to the late Alhaji Aminu Dantata, praising him as a figure who enriched not only Nigeria’s economy but also the lives of countless citizens through his philanthropic spirit.
In a condolence message shared with the Dantata family in Abuja on Sunday, Obi hailed Dantata as “a revered patriarch and statesman” whose influence spanned generations and sectors.
“Alhaji Dantata’s humility, compassion and simplicity, even amidst great wealth, are virtues worth emulating,” Obi remarked. “He uplifted not just Nigeria’s economy but the Nigerian people through his wisdom in commerce and philanthropy.”
Obi offered prayers for the late businessman, asking that Allah grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give strength to his family and the nation to endure this loss. He further expressed hope that Dantata’s legacy of enterprise, selflessness and humility would continue to inspire Nigerians in the years ahead.
Dantata, who passed away early on Saturday at the age of 94, was celebrated as both a renowned businessman and philanthropist. Among his notable contributions was the establishment of the Kano State Foundation, which provided grants to small-scale entrepreneurs and supported educational initiatives across the state.
As the head of a conglomerate that managed real estate and various other ventures, Dantata’s impact on Nigeria’s economic landscape remains significant.
