The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared itself the only political force capable of dislodging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday in Abuja, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the party was undergoing internal reforms and remained the most deeply rooted political movement across the country.
“We are organic and nationally rooted. There is no community in Nigeria without a PDP presence,” Ologunagba asserted.
He maintained that the party’s previous 16-year rule had left enduring legacies, particularly in rural development and national integration. He said Nigerians were increasingly looking to the PDP to provide a viable alternative to the APC.
“People call me privately, urging the party to unite and rescue the country,” he revealed.
Taking a swipe at the ruling party, Ologunagba described the APC as a “bad market”, suggesting no amount of political rebranding or high-profile candidacy would reverse public disillusionment.
“No patriotic Nigerian would support the APC again, no matter who they field,” he said.
He played down recent defections from the party, insisting the PDP remains intact and resilient.
“While leaders matter, true political strength lies with the followers. Our grassroots base is firm and loyal,” he added.
Ologunagba also announced that the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting would take place from July 23 to 25, during which updates will be received from the zoning and convention planning committees.
The NEC is also expected to ratify results from recent congresses conducted across various states.
