Cross River chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kick-started reconciliation and consultation process, as part of efforts to rebrand the party in the state.

The consultation process commenced with the visits to critical party stakeholders in Cross River South Senatorial District by the newly-inaugurated acting Chairman, Chief Austin Edibe, and members of the State Working Committee (SWC).

Edibe said that the consultation process was aimed at drawing from the wealth of experience of strategic stakeholders, as he was set to reposition the party, ahead of 2027 and beyond.

While expressing the regret that the few mistakes made by the party had almost eroded its achievements in the state since 1999, he promised that with the cooperation of all, the party would bounce back.

“We must not be downcast with our present opposition status in the state. Cross River remains a PDP state.

“Not only do our past records attest to this, we are holding our well in the northern senatorial district of the state, even with the immediate past governor being from there.

“All we need to do in the remaining two districts is to see how we can galvanise our members, reconcile the perceived aggrieved ones and set to process to reposition the party across the state.

“Our focus will not just be south and central senatorial districts, even the north where we seem to have held sway will be part of the total repositioning and rebranding of PDP in Cross River.

“With the visits of today, we are elated and hopeful that we have commenced the process of healing that will ultimately take us back to the good old days of PDP in the state,” Edibe stated.

A former Deputy Governor of the state, Effiok Cobham, a former Chairman of Calabar South Local Government, Mr Bassey Ekefre, and the convener of PDP elders’ forum, Mrs Eno Oqua, were some of those visited by the party leadership.

Cobham, while commending the initiative, expressed confidence in the capacity of the acting chairman and his team to deliver on their mandate.

He advised Edibe to reach out to all aggrieved members of the party in their quest to repositioning the party.

The former deputy governor assured the party leadership of his total commitment to PDP at all times.

Like Effiok, Ekefre and Oqua also pledged their commitment to assisting the leadership in their quest to reposition the party. (NAN)
