Kogi State Polytechnic has dismissed 273 students for failing to meet academic requirements, in a sweeping disciplinary move affecting multiple departments and programmes, according to the institution’s Academic Board.
The announcement was made on Monday by Professor Salisu Usman, Chairman of the Academic Board and Rector of the Polytechnic, following the board’s 120th meeting. The decision comes after a review of first-semester results for the 2024/2025 academic year.
In addition to the mass withdrawal, six students were permanently expelled from the institution for examination misconduct, including impersonation and possession of unauthorised materials. The offences were committed by students from the Business Administration, Accountancy, and Mass Communication departments.
“The Central Examination Misconduct Committee, chaired by Dr Grace Ehimony, thoroughly investigated the incidents and submitted its findings to the board,” said Professor Usman. “Based on these recommendations, the board approved the immediate expulsion of the students involved.”
A total of 20 departments and 42 academic programmes were affected by the recent action, reflecting a broader commitment to raising academic standards. The Rector reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to excellence and urged students to make full use of the learning support available to them.
