Opay Digital Services has pledged to support 20 students of Kwara State Polytechnic annually for the next 10 years via a scholarship.
The representative of the Digital Services, Mr Itoro Udo disclosed this on Wednesday during a visit to the management of the polytechnic.
Udo said that the primary aim of the initiative was to promote career development, foster inclusiveness, and provide financial support to deserving students.
He said that the scholarship was opened to all undergraduate students of Kwara State Polytechnic, who maintained an active Opay account, adding that each beneficiary of the scholarship would receive ₦300,000 per academic session.
According to him, at least 20 students will be sponsored annually for the next 10 years, demonstrating OPay’s commitment to education and youth empowerment.
The Rector of the institution, Dr Abdul Jimoh, commended OPay Digital Services for its innovative scholarship initiative aimed at alleviating financial barriers for students pursuing higher education.
Jimoh highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting educational access and equity.
He said that choosing the institution as a beneficiary among the 10 selected institutions was highly commendable.
Jimoh urged Opay to expand its philanthropic efforts beyond scholarships to include infrastructure improvements such as building hostels, classrooms, and ICT facilities which he said would significantly benefit the student community and create a more conducive learning environment.
The rector also called for collaboration with Opay in agricultural initiatives which he believed would complement the polytechnic’s efforts in enhancing food sufficiency in the state, and exposing students to the practical aspect of their course of study. (NAN)
