Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to combating cultism, kidnapping, and other criminal activities to ensure the safety of all residents.
Speaking after a closed-door security meeting on Wednesday evening at Government House, Benin City, Governor Okpebholo emphasized the importance of sustained efforts in the fight against crime. The meeting brought together key security officials, including commanders and leaders of the Edo State Special Security Squad.
Present at the meeting were the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dannis Idahosa; Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Musa Ikhilor; Executive Member of the Special Security Squad, Comrade Ameloemen Idemudia Noah; and other notable security stakeholders.
Governor Okpebholo described the meeting as productive, noting that the team strategized on strengthening operations against cult groups and kidnappers. “We want to see that Edo State is safe for all of us, and we are able to drive a strong economy,” he said.
Since the inauguration of the Special Security Squad, which comprises personnel from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), hunters, vigilante groups, and repentant cultists, there has been a marked improvement in security across the state.
The Squad has successfully identified and conducted raids on several crime hotspots, leading to multiple arrests of suspects and cult group leaders, particularly in Benin City. These efforts have restored relative peace to previously troubled areas.
Governor Okpebholo’s administration has vowed to maintain pressure on criminal elements to ensure that Edo State remains a safe and secure place for residents and investors alike.
