The Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Professor Victor Adetimirin Olawale as the new Vice Chancellor of Edo University, Iyamho.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Friday in a statement signed by Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., Secretary to the State Government.
Prof. Olawale, a seasoned academic and respected university administrator, brings decades of experience in teaching, research, and higher education leadership to his new role. A Professor of Agronomy, he earned his B.Sc. in Agriculture from the University of Ibadan, where he also obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics.
Over the course of his distinguished academic career, Prof. Olawale has held several key positions, including Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, and Director of Academic Planning. He is well-regarded for his contributions to curriculum development, academic policy reform, and research excellence in Nigeria’s university system.
The newly appointed Vice Chancellor has authored numerous publications in reputable local and international journals and has successfully supervised several postgraduate students.
According to the State Government, Prof. Olawale’s appointment aligns with Governor Okpebholo’s administration’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, innovation, and institutional growth in the state’s higher education sector.
“His wealth of experience, dedication to academic excellence, and visionary leadership are expected to further elevate Edo University, Iyamho, as a center of learning and research excellence in Nigeria and beyond,” the statement read.
Prof. Olawale is expected to assume duties immediately and steer the university into a new phase of academic and infrastructural development.
