The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) Benue Chapter has commended Gov. Hyacinth Alia for creating the Bureau for Livestock Development and Transboundary Animal Diseases.
Dr Andrew Amine, Benue NVMA Chairman, gave the commendation on Monday in Makurdi when he led officials of the association on a courtesy call on the Director-General of the agency.
Amine described the creation of the bureau as the right step in the right direction.
The chairman said that the bureau would no doubt fast-track the development of the livestock subsector.
Amine thanked the governor for appointing one of their own, Dr Aondoakaa Asambe, as the pioneer Director General of the bureau.
The chairman assured the governor that with a core professional at the helm of the bureau, his vision would be achieved.
He charged the D-G not to let the state down but to uplift the name of the profession by outstanding performance.
Amine used the occasion to enumerate the association’s modest achievements in the last few months.
Asambe, in his remarks, thanked the NVMA officials for being the first group to pay him since his appointment.
The D-G stated that by the grace of God he would ensure that other states will come to learn about livestock development in Benue.
“Immediately I was appointed, I commenced work to ensure veterinary services get to the grassroots by having at least two vets in every local government for a start.
“I will run a consultative leadership and set high standards that will outlive my tenure,” he pledged. (NAN)
