Team Ogun on Tuesday defeated their counterparts, Team Kogi, in the women’s handball match 32-20.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the action-packed game saw the Gateway ladies dominating the first half, scoring 16 goals, while Team Kogi scored 11 goals.

In a post-match interview, Team Ogun’s head coach, Shola Sekoni, expressed happiness over the team’s performance, saying that their expectations remain high.

Sekoni commended the state government for providing a standard facility for the games.

“I must first thank the governor for giving us this game. We just started, so I will give them 50 per cent. I believe we are qualifying, and we are getting to the final.

“At the beginning, it was great, but when we saw that we were losing energy, later we had to change our tactics.

“They cannot understand our pattern. Our next match is against Plateau; our girls are not leaving any stone unturned to ensure we win,” he said.

Also speaking, Team Kogi’s coach, Emeka Joseph, who was optimistic, said that his team will bounce back stronger in their next match against Plateau.

“The girls did very well even though we couldn’t win the match. They played their best. We lost, but we are still satisfied while we prepare for the next match against Plateau.

“We are not going to give up; I believe we are going to win the next match,” he added.

Meanwhile, in the male category, Team FCT defeated Team Kano 29-20.

The Adamawa male handball team will take on their Enugu State counterparts later today. Other fixtures include Edo v Kano (female), Ogun v Sokoto (male) and Oyo v Imo (female). (NAN)
