The Cross River Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it arrested no fewer than 126 persons for various offences between January and December 2024.

The command spokesperson, John Eremi disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar on Wednesday.

He also said that a total of 11 of these cases were charged to court within the period under review.

Eremi said from the cases in court, three persons were convicted.

Continuing, the spokesman explained that while one is currently on appeal from the convicted, the command secured two conviction.

According to Eremi, the command recorded zero arrest for crude oil theft in the same period.

“Even with the bitter experience the command went through in 2024 when our office roof was blown off by the wind, we still recorded some level of successes.

“From the 126 arrest made, 10 were for illegal mining while 116 were for other sundry offences,” he stated.

Eremi said aside the challenge of office accommodation, the command also lack operational vehicles as well as shortage of manpower.(NAN)
