The Northern Senators’ Forum (NSF) on Thursday, congratulated former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, ahead of his 90th birthday on Oct. 19.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’adua, the forum described Gowon as a “visionary leader” whose dedication to Nigeria’s unity and progress had left an indelible mark on the nation’s history.
“Gowon’s leadership played a crucial role in guiding Nigeria into a new era after the civil war, thereby, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to peace and stability.
“His legacy continues to inspire and guide our nation and we are grateful for his selfless service to Nigeria,” the group said.
The NSF highlighted some of Gowon’s notable achievements to include the creation of 12 states in 1967, replacing the then regional arrangements.
