The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Worldwide (NIDO-WW) has expressed its condolences to compatriots both at home and abroad over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Mr Chibuzo Ubochi, the Coordinating Chairman of NIDO-WW and Chairman of NIDO Europe, described Buhari as a patriot and disciplined leader who dedicated his life to Nigeria’s progress.
Buhari died on Sunday, 13 July 2025, aged 82, in a London hospital following a prolonged illness.
“NIDO-WW joins all Nigerians at home and abroad to mourn the loss of a true patriot, a soldier and leader who devoted his life to the service of Nigeria,” Ubochi said.
He noted that Buhari’s peaceful handover of power in 2023 marked a significant step in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
“This singular act of handover deserves gratitude and respect. We honour the memory of a patriot, a disciplinarian and a democrat,” he added.
Ubochi also highlighted Buhari’s assent to the NiDCOM Act as a landmark moment that formally recognised the contributions of Nigerians abroad.
“Since then, the diaspora has felt recognised, welcomed and included. Though he is gone, this legacy endures in the hearts of Nigerians in the diaspora,” he said.
NIDO-WW brings together Nigerians across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania to advocate diaspora interests, support national development, and harness global expertise for a stronger Nigeria.
