The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two individuals suspected to be members of a deadly cult group allegedly responsible for the brutal killing of a senior police officer, Superintendent Bako Angbashim, last year.
Angbashim, who was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Division, was murdered on 8 September 2023 in Oduemude community, Ahoada-East Local Government Area, by suspected members of the Iceland cult gang led by the now-infamous Gift Okpara, alias ‘2 Baba’.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, announced the capture of Lovegod Goodluck and Precious Olumini, two suspects believed to have been involved in the operation that claimed Angbashim’s life.
According to Iringe-Koko, the arrests were made by operatives of the Octopus Tactical Team during targeted raids in Ikata community, as part of a wider operation to apprehend cult leader ‘K1’, a known associate of the late 2 Baba.
During the initial operation on 3 May 2025, police stormed a hideout in Ikata and arrested Goodluck. Officers recovered a locally made single-barrel gun and two live cartridges. A follow-up operation on 13 June 2025 led to the arrest of Olumini, who had previously evaded capture. Authorities recovered an English-made pump-action shotgun and a locally fabricated pistol from the scene.
Both suspects, during questioning, reportedly confessed to their membership in the Iceland cult group—a gang that has been linked to a series of violent crimes in the Ahoada-East axis.
The police have confirmed that the suspects and recovered weapons are in custody, with ongoing investigations to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and dismantle the group’s operational network.
