The Nigerian Correctional Service, Edo Command, has partnered with the Edo Health Insurance Service (EDOHIS) for free secondary and specialized medical treatment for inmates.
The command Public Relations Officer Mr Aminu Suleman said on Tuesday in Benin that the aim was to ensure that inmates receive necessary medication beyond basic treatment.
The Controller of Corrections, Mrs Philomena Emehinola expressed gratitude to Gov Godwin Obaseki and EDOHIS Team for the gesture.
Emehinola stated that it would enhance justice delivery and aid inmates reformation.
“The Nigerian Correctional Service prioritizes inmates’ security and well-being, and this support will guarantee humane custody and rehabilitation.
”The scheme has commenced, with some inmates already benefiting from advanced medical treatments,” he said.
The Controller called on other agencies and individuals to partner with the Nigerian Correctional Service to support its efforts in achieving safe and secure custody, justice, and reintegration of inmates into the society. (NAN)
