The Ogun State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has issued a public warning about a fraudulent recruitment campaign circulating online. The Corps clarified that no official hiring process is currently underway.
In a statement released on Tuesday, NSCDC spokesperson Mr Dyke Ogbonnaya revealed that a criminal syndicate is using the image and reputation of a senior officer to defraud members of the public.
“The public is being deceived by individuals exploiting a senior officer’s goodwill and photographs to extract money from unsuspecting victims through false promises of employment,” Ogbonnaya said.
He emphasised that any legitimate recruitment exercise would be publicised via established media outlets and official NSCDC platforms. Citizens were urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
“The Corps is taking proactive measures to identify and apprehend those responsible. Our intelligence and surveillance teams are currently investigating this group, and we are committed to bringing them to justice,” he stated.
The agency disassociated itself and the implicated officer from the scam and advised members of the public to disregard any unofficial messages or adverts.
“We strongly advise the public not to engage with these criminals. If NSCDC is recruiting, there will be formal announcements through reputable media,” Ogbonnaya added.
He also encouraged residents to report fraudulent schemes to security agencies promptly, stressing the importance of public awareness in combating cyber-enabled fraud.
