Nigeria’s Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has delivered a strong message to those seeking to destabilise the country, declaring that there will be “no hiding place” for enemies of peace.

Speaking during the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) Second Quarter Route March in Abuja on Wednesday, Air Marshal Abubakar reaffirmed the Force’s unshakable commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s airspace and protecting citizens nationwide.

“Our duty to protect Nigerians is not just a responsibility—it is our highest priority,” he told a gathering of officers, airmen, and airwomen. “We will defend every inch of our airspace and stand firm alongside our sister services in joint operations to secure lives and property.”

Addressing those who pose a threat to national security, he issued a stern warning: “To the enemies of our nation—know this: there will be no sanctuary. We will locate you, and we will eliminate you.”

Air Marshal Abubakar also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his consistent support of the Armed Forces, especially through investments in operational capacity and the welfare of personnel. He reaffirmed the Air Force’s loyalty to the President and commitment to his national security agenda.

Turning to internal policy, the Air Chief highlighted the essential role of physical fitness in enhancing operational readiness. He announced a new directive making fitness evaluations a mandatory component of career advancement within the service.

“Physical fitness is now a compulsory criterion for promotion. All Performance Evaluation Reports must be accompanied by a valid Physical Fitness Test Certificate,” he said. “No one will be considered for promotion unless they meet the required medical and physical standards.”

Drawing a parallel between the route march and the broader mission of the NAF, Abubakar underscored the importance of discipline, resilience, and purpose.

“Our march today is more than a physical exercise—it is a symbol of our enduring resolve. The road to national security and lasting peace is not without obstacles. But those who remain disciplined and focused will ultimately prevail,” he said.

“Let this march reignite our fighting spirit and deepen our shared commitment to defending Nigeria. We are not simply marching through streets; we are moving with purpose—towards honour, towards victory.”

The route march, a regular feature of the Air Force calendar, aims to maintain high standards of physical conditioning and unity among personnel, reinforcing readiness in the face of evolving security challenges across the country.
