NGScholars, an academic online platform, has launched the Teacher Excellence Scholarship, aimed at supporting students pursuing education degrees at Colleges of Education and Teacher Training Institutes across Nigeria.
Mr Ahmed Ogundimu, Innovative Entrepreneur/Product Manager at NGScholars, announced this in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.
Ogundimu said that the scholarship was designed to enhance the quality of teacher education in Nigeria and empower future educators committed to teaching in public primary and secondary schools.
“We aim to elevate the standards of teachers’ training by motivating talented individuals who are passionate about teaching and ensure graduates are well-prepared to provide high-quality education to young learners.
“To qualify, applicants must be full-time students in their penultimate or final year, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 points and demonstrate a commitment to teaching in public schools after graduation.
“Each applicant is required to submit an original essay on “The Impact of Teacher Motivation On Student Success in Nigeria,” along with a personal statement outlining their career goals and passion for education,” Ogundinmu said.
According to him, the scholarship funds will be strictly allocated for educational expenses such as tuition, books and living costs.
He noted that the recipients must commit to teaching in public schools for at least two years after graduation.
Ogundinmu further stated that application for the scholarship opened on Oct. 1, and would close on Dec. 31, while successful candidates would be notified by Feb. 15, 2025 and funds disbursed starting March 1, 2025.
