The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, marking the end of the assessment process for thousands of junior secondary school students across Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, Mr Azeez Sani, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NECO, confirmed that 179,201 candidates sat for the exam, which was held in 12 subjects from 12 to 23 May.

The decision to release the results followed the successful completion of the BECE Award Committee meeting at NECO’s headquarters in Minna. Dr Folake Olatunji-David, who chairs the committee and also serves as Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exams and the result processing.

“The meeting was also attended by a number of secondary school principals from across the country, alongside NECO management,” Sani noted.

In addition to releasing the results, the committee approved the schedule for the 2025 BECE resit. Students who need to retake Mathematics and English Studies will do so on 23 and 24 July, respectively.

The BECE is a key national exam in Nigeria, taken by pupils at the end of Junior Secondary School to qualify for Senior Secondary School.
