Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Danladi Jatau, is sponsoring 13 football players from Kokona LGA of the State to Accra, Ghana for football trials.
The speaker disclosed this while addressing the players ” Team Speaker” in his office on Tuesday in Lafia.
He urged the players to be good ambassadors of the LGA, Nasarawa State and Nigeria while in Ghana and beyond.
Jatau ( APC- Kokona West) said that the young players emerged during the recent unity competition he organised for the youths of the 11 wards of the LGA.
” The selection of these players emerged as a result of the Unity Competition that I have organised for the 11 electoral wards of Kokona LGA.
” The reasons why I have decided to organise the competition is first, for unity of our Local Government Area
” Secondly, to discover talents among the youths, as you can see, we have discovered their talents through my competition.
” If I did not organise the competition, we won’t be able to discover their hidden talents,” he said.
The speaker congratulated and wished them well.
” I am proud of you, go out and perform by making the state proud, ” he added.
Jatau assured them of his support at all times.
“I will continue to support you when the need arises and to enable you succeed”
Earlier, Coach Bawa Mohammed, Director of Sports, ECOWAS Commission said that he was in the Speaker’s office to present the players to him ahead of their movement to Ghana on Nov. 16.
” I want to appreciate you for the sponsorship as I will be taking the 13 players to Ghana for final trials this coming Saturday” he said.
Bawa described the speaker’s gesture as first of its kind in the history of Kokona LGA.(NAN)
