The Police Command in Nasarawa State has arrested a man for alleged employment racketeering and name-dropping.
DSP Ramhan Nansel, the command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday in Lafia.
Nansel said that the suspect was arrested by personnel attached to the State Intelligence Department.
The PPRO said that the suspect was defrauding unsuspecting job seekers of their money under the guise of securing them jobs in the police and Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had fraudulently obtained the sum of N300,000 from one Monday Akinde of Obi Local Government Area.
“He promised to secure a job for him at Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board and thereafter tricked the same victim into bringing someone seeking recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force.
“He told them that the Commissioner of Police had given him a slot, and he is willing to sell it for N500,000.”
Nansel further said that in a bid to convince his victim of the authenticity of his claim, the suspect lured him to the police command headquarters and left him at the entrance.
“The suspect then entered into the command headquarters and was lurking around before he was consequently arrested, and the aforementioned confessions were made,” he said.
The PPRO said that a search was immediately conducted on him when two fake promotion letters from people working at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital were found.
He said that the suspect claimed that he had gotten the promotion letters on Facebook.
Nansel said that the police had recovered N300,000 from the suspect as an exhibit.
He urged job seekers to be wary of employment racketeers and be mindful of posting sensitive information on social media.
While calling on members of the public who had fallen victim to the suspect to come forward with their complaints for further action, he warned those planning to toe the path of the suspect of serious consequences. (NAN).
