The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has passed into second reading a Bill for a Law to Establish Nasarawa State Private Health Institutions Management Agency.
It is charged with the ‘Responsibilities of Regulating Private Health Facilities and Training Institutions, Licensing and Supervision of Health Services’ and for ‘Other Matters Connected Therewith’.
This, the house said, the bill, if finally passed into law, would tackle quackery in private health institutions.
Mr Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the house, announced the passage of the bill into second reading during its proceedings on Tuesday in Lafia.
He said the bill, if passed and assented to, would also strengthen health institutions, thereby boosting the health status of the people of the state.
The speaker committed the bill to the House Committee on Health to work on it and report back to the house on October 16.
Earlier, the Leader of the House, Alhaji Suleiman Azara, gave the substance of the bill.
He said it was aimed at among other things, to establish an agency in the state to take charge of activities of all private health establishments.
Azara said that the bill, if passed, would also improve on the quality of health personnel in the state.
Also contributing, Larry Ven-Bawa, Abel Bala and Jacob Kudu, all supported the bill to scale second reading.
They said that the bill, if passed, would checkmate the activities of private hospitals and clinics in the state.
They said that the bill would also tackle quackery in the private health institutions.(NAN)
