MTN Nigeria says it has donated 4,600 tablets to be shared in some public secondary schools across the six geopolitical zones in the country.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors, MTN, Nigeria, Dr Ernest Ndukwe, made the disclosure during the maiden empowerment programme for Government Secondary Schools in Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that MTN commenced the exercise with Government Science Secondary School, Pyakasa, Maitama, where 50 tablets were donated in to empower its students.

Ndukwe said the tablets were far more than just devices, as it represent MTN’s commitment to empowering the next generation with the essential tools they needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

According to him, months ago, Vice President Kashim Shettima reached out to MTN Nigeria with a request that we should support the Federal Government’s digital learning Initiatives by donating learning tablets to schools.

“In response, the Board of MTN Nigeria took decisive action by acquiring 4,600 Lenovo tablets, each pre-installed with U-Lesson software, which is filled with educational materials for secondary school students, based on the Nigeria curriculum.

Ndukwe, however, promised that many other schools would soon benefit from such generous donation, ensuring that students nationwide had access to these valuable educational resources.

“I am immensely proud to share that this initiative is just the beginning.

“While we celebrate the handover here today, many other schools across Nigeria will soon benefit from this generous donation, ensuring that students nationwide have access to these valuable educational resources.

“At MTN Nigeria, we believe that by providing these resources, we are not only enhancing the educational experience of our youth but also paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.

“Our goal is to bridge the digital divide and create opportunities for every student, regardless of their location, to succeed and excel.

The MTN Chairman pledged the company’s commitment to continuously partnering with the government to support the socio-economic development of Nigeria.

The Principal of the School, Mr Usman Okuru, said MTN’s gesture to empower Nigerian students was a significant milestone toward digital excellence, adding that access to technology was no longer a possibility but a necessity.

Okuru described the gesture as an “investment” in dreams, aspirations of the students, the gateway to knowledge, innovation, and opportunities.

He urged the students to make the most of these resources, use them to thrive, innovate, and to prepare themselves for the future, where technology would play a great role.

“With this gesture, our students will not only improve their digital literacy, but also enhance their research capabilities, coding skills, and overall academic performance.

“I urge you to make the most of these resources, use them to thrive, innovate, and to prepare yourselves for the future, where technology will play an even greater role,” he said. (NAN)
