The Minister of Regional Development, Mr Abubakar Momoh, has commended BUA Group for donating a building to the North-West Development Commission (NWDC).
The minister made the commendation on Sunday during an inspection visit to the multi-purpose facility located alomg Court Road in Kano metropolis.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the handing over of the building was held on May 20, and was attended by dignitaries from both public and private sectors.
Momoh said the gesture would greatly support the NWDC in building a strong foundation for regional development programmes.
The minister explained that the gesture was commendable, saying that the facility would go a long way in making the function of the commission more easier.
He called on the management of the commission and other staff to make proper use of the facility for the benefit of people of the region.
The minister expressed hope that other wealthy people, companies, government agencies and organisations will compliment BUA’s gesture.
Momoh further assured the management that the Federal Government was looking forward in a short time to provide a permanent site for the commission.
Earlier, the Chairman of the commission, Alhaji Lawal Isma’ila-Yakawada informed the minister that an adhoc committee had been set up to facilitate the furnishing of the offices.
The chairman said that all the necessary majors had been put in place to make the multi-purpose building usable.
He further assured the minister that in the next few weeks, the facility would be ready for inauguration by him.
Lawal-Yakawada also assured Momoh that the commission would be beneficial to the people of the region, and the country as a whole.
The Managing Director of the commission, Prof. Shehu Maaji, said the initiative markef a new beginning in addressing developmental issues in the region.
He assured of all the necessary support, commitments and dedication towards moving the North-West and the commission forward.
Other dignitaries in attendance were the board member representing Kano State in the commission, Alhaji Ali Wudil, and Alhaji Nasidi Ali from Jigawa. (NAN)
