A 39-year-old man, Favour Akinyemi, who allegedly defrauded a student of N346,000, has appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The defendant was charged before Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni on a one-count charge of obtaining by false pretence.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 18 at Shibiri area of Ojo, Lagos.
Uche said that the defendant obtained the sum of N346,000 from one Naomi Precious, under the pretext of helping her to process an e-passport and other documents for her tertiary institution.
He said that the representation was as the defendant knowingly failed to process the said documents.
The offence, according to him, contravenes the provisions of Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Nov. 11 for mention. (NAN)
