Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, President, Centre for Change, has urged Ghana President, John Mahama to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

Okei-Odumakin gave the advice in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

The human rights activist said Mahama’s second tenure provided an opportunity for him to continue his good works and translate his noble vision into reality.

According to her, with high expectations from the electorate, Mahama is poised to write a new chapter in Ghana’s history.

“It is indubitable that he has entered the hallowed pantheon of distinguished African leaders with glowing antecedents.

“As John Dramani Mahama assumes office, Ghanaians eagerly anticipate the fulfillment of his campaign promises.

“His overwhelming victory in the last election is seen as a pact with the voters, who expect him to deliver the dividends of democracy.

“With a second term in office, Mahama is poised to continue the good work he started in the past and translate his vision into transformative programs for the people,” she said.

Okei-Odumakin stated that Mahama’s legacy played a significant role in securing his second term.

She further added that Ghanaians remembered him as a transparent politician who lost an election to the opposition National Patriotic Party in 2016.

She said it was a rare but positive development in Ghana’s history.

“This perception convinced the electorate that Mahama is a leader with integrity, with no skeletons in his cupboard.

“The National Democratic Congress also recognised Mahama’s enduring popularity despite his electoral loss in 2016.

“As a result, the party reserved the presidential ticket for him, a testament to his commitment to the enrichment of democratic ethos in Ghana.

“With his second term underway, Mahama is expected to build on his past achievements and implement his campaign promises.

“Ghanaians are optimistic that his administration will bring about transformative programs that will improve their lives,” Okei-Odumakin concluded.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that Mahama, the ninth president of Ghana was re-elected in the its 2024 election.

He defeated the then incumbent vice president, Mahamudu Bawumia, making him the first president in Ghanaian history to be democratically elected to a non-consecutive second term.

He had previously served as Ghana President from July 24 2012 to Jan. 7 2017. (NAN)
